Ian,
thanks for thinking into this... In fact last night I found the problem. As usual it was sitting in front of the monitor. Before starting my experiments I set the camera time to match the one my GPS-software on the phone was showing. While doing that I obviously must also have changed the date to 2011 (yes, that´s embarassing;-)) Now I´m an expert in ExifTool and bulk-changing dates and filenames of what is already imported into LR;-)
Bottom line: The feature works perfectly. And now as I´m only half way through dropping all my old pictures on the map I also know one thing: I´ll never go out on a photo walk anymore without some kind of GPS-tracking device...

I'm surprised that the timezone settings doesn't fix it. That's interesting, so did it place all photos accurately for you?
I've been going through my library and manually dropping photos onto the map, wish I'd been using tracking as it's so much quicker!!

Really helpfull, thanks! Got a problem, though because Auto-tag x photos tags nothing but brings up the message "No matching photos". Tried various tracking software, always the same result. The GPX-files actually are 2 hours early on each point but played around with timezone-settings also doesn´t fix the problem. No idea what else to try - do you have any more suggestions?
Interesting enough the "other feature" (select all photos, drag 1 of them onto the exact position where that photo was taken on the tracklog - the other ones are played as well) works.

Nice article. I have been playing with this now for a while and it is a very nice and easy way of geotagging photos without the need of a dedicated GPS unit for the camera.
For Android, I would recommend the free My Tracks application by google (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.maps.mytracks&hl=en)

I'm not sure, the canon reps I've seen have recommended trying an eye-fi card with the mk3 as it has an SD slot, but I can't imagine that's as reliable as a dedicated unit!

Appears that the Transmitter for the MKIII differs in that it looks as if it is thinner and not looking like a battery grip but more like a thin transmitter that would screw to the bottom of your vertical grip or just straight to the camera..any thoughts?

Thanks for your comments about the car, I own Darwin Classic Cars: I fully support your comments about Ian's work: we needed to get over the idea of classic or vintage, as this is very contemporary at the moment. Ian's experience helped us to create an image for our brand and helps Brides to imagine what our car would be like on the day.

That's a great idea david, I've never looked at the WFT web browser. I know from visiting Focus on Imaging this week that there are several developers making iOS remotes, receivers and lighting controllers. Exciting times!!

I have made this setup with an iphone previously - not even needing an app. All i did was to connect the 2 in an adhoc config, and then set the iphone to a static IP and the same with the WFT.
After that i could access the WFT webpage from my safari browser n had all controls you usually have in EOS Utility - very easy to work with except every time my iphone went to "sleep" i lost the connection.
Its very usefull however, since i do alot of shots from an 8 meter pole, and cant adjust the shutter etc when up there, it was always just a close guess.
This was with the EOS 7D and the WFT for that one - i never tried this setup with th 5DII since i havent got a WFT-E4II (wont work with WFT-E4)

Pity you can't read many of the thumbs on this page... especially the Shutter Snitch ones. Could you document the settings or make the thumbs bigger so we can see what's really going on? Cheers

I bought two and the inner spring clips which hold the flash in place, all fell out. They are useless when you are in a professional environment, so I've made a few alterations to improve the design.
